Artist's Statement
In a world where many things are easy to obtain by a few pushes of a button, I paint images that are inherently challenging. I try to remain 'primitive' in my approach to art. I draw by eye, using my senses and memory to fill in what I cannot see. I try to capture the sounds, moods, and feelings in a 'moment of time', may it be in downtown Ottawa, Toronto, or in Merrickville.
In addition, I have also always been an equine enthusiast; I spent many years riding and getting to know horses. In my animal art, my aim is to capture personality and character, so as to express the distinct individuality of the animal I portray.
I find that painting human beings on canvas is the most engrossing of all artistic endeavours. Scenes showing some or many people in communication with one another have recently been favourite topics of mine. But I also enjoy 'zoning in' on one or two people to capture them in a pensive moment or to grasp the prevalent atmosphere.
I await with great anticipation the next sight that will trigger my imagination!
